Snippets and autocomplete
Keep recurring commands as snippets and let the terminal suggest commands, options and paths while you type.
Snippets#
Snippets are commands you use again and again. Open Snippets in the sidebar and click New snippet. Give it a name, the command, optional tags and a description. Snippets are encrypted together with the rest of your vault.
To use a snippet:
- Click Insert into the active terminal on the Snippets page, or Copy command.
- Open the Snippets tool in the Connections and tools panel of the Workspace.
- Find it with ⌘K on macOS or Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux.
Autocomplete#
While you type at the shell prompt, Ravelon suggests the best match as dimmed text after the cursor. Suggestions come from your command history on this device, your snippets, built-in knowledge of common commands and options, and local or remote paths.
| Key | Effect |
|---|---|
| → | Inserts the suggestion without running it |
| ↓ and ↑ | Choose another suggestion |
| Enter | Inserts the chosen suggestion |
| Esc | Hides suggestions until the next command |
| ⌃Space on macOS, Ctrl+Space on Windows and Linux | Opens the full list |
Tab stays with your shell's own completion.
Suggestions pause while a program runs, inside full-screen programs and at password, passphrase, one-time code, token and PIN prompts. Commands that look like they contain a secret are never added to the history. The history is encrypted and stays on this device.
AI command suggestions#
If you have set up an AI provider, type # followed by what you want, for example # find the largest files here. Pick a suggested command with → or Enter. The command is inserted into the line, never run. See Ravelon Agent and AI coding agents.
