Termius alternative
A Termius alternative you buy once, not every month.
Ravelon is a desktop app for SSH sessions, SFTP transfers, port forwarding and saved commands. Hosts, keys and passwords live in an encrypted vault on your machine. Syncing them to your other devices is a one-time purchase, and you can run that sync server yourself.
Termius is a cross-platform SSH client with a hosted cloud vault. This page is written and maintained by Ravelon, and Termius is a trademark of its owner.
Ravelon and Termius, side by side
| Compared | Ravelon | Termius |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing model | Free on one device. Pro is EUR 19.90 once, Self Hosted EUR 99.90 once. | Free tier plus paid plans billed per user per month. |
| Where sync runs | Ravelon Cloud, or your own server with the Self Hosted licence. | Their hosted cloud. |
| Vault | AES-256-GCM vault on your device. Sync moves only encrypted data. | Encrypted cloud vault tied to the account. |
| Platforms | Windows, macOS and Linux. A native iPhone and iPad app is in development. | Desktop, mobile and browser. Wider coverage than Ravelon today. |
| SFTP and tunnels | Both share the connection the terminal already uses. | Both included. |

| Coding agents | Runs the CLI you already have, in a project folder beside your servers. | Not part of the product. |

Why people look
Four reasons people look for a Termius alternative
01
The monthly bill never stops
Termius keeps a usable free tier and bills its paid plans per user per month. A tool you open every working day then costs more every year you keep it. Ravelon charges once for the same capability and keeps working after that.
02
Sync is the thing behind the paywall
In both products the terminal itself is free. What you pay for is getting your saved hosts onto a second machine. That is one purchase in Ravelon, and it is an end-to-end encrypted vault either way.
03
You cannot host their cloud yourself
Some teams are not allowed to keep infrastructure data with a third party, even encrypted. Ravelon sells a sync server licence you deploy with Docker in your own environment, so the encrypted vault never leaves your network.
04
AI on your own account
Verified Ops in Ravelon talks to the provider you connect, including a model on your own hardware. Nothing is metered by us, secrets are stripped on your device first, and a proposed change runs only after you confirm it.
Bring your hosts across in one pass
Ravelon imports everything already in ~/.ssh/config, including the identity files those entries point at. Most people are connected again within a few minutes, without retyping a host list.
- SSH config import in one pass
- Host groups, colours and icons
- Jump hosts with their own pinned key
- Per-host notes, encrypted in the vault
One connection, three jobs
Terminals, the file browser and every tunnel against one host share a single connection and a single authentication. On a server that limits concurrent sessions, that difference decides the whole workday.
Open the file browser from the session you are already in, not from a second login.
What you pay, once
The desktop app is free on one device, with the local encrypted vault, terminal, SFTP and the assistant. Pro is a one-time purchase and adds end-to-end encrypted sync across your devices. Self Hosted is a one-time licence for running that sync server yourself and includes one Pro account.
- No subscription and no seat renewal
- The free tier keeps every local feature
- Self Hosted includes one Pro account
The other side
Where Termius is the better pick
If you administer servers from a phone or tablet every day, Termius has shipped mobile apps for years and Ravelon has not. The iPhone and iPad app is in development and is not in the App Store yet, so a mobile-first workflow is a real reason to stay.
Termius is also further along on team administration. If you need seat management, single sign-on and audit trails across a large organisation today, check that Ravelon team vaults cover what your process needs before you move.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is Ravelon a drop-in replacement for Termius?
On the desktop, close to it: SSH, SFTP, port forwarding, saved commands, an encrypted vault and sync across your devices are all there. On mobile it is not, because the iPhone and iPad app is still in development.
Can I import my Termius hosts?
Ravelon imports OpenSSH config files. Termius can export your hosts to that format, and Ravelon reads it in one pass together with the identity files it references. Passwords are not part of that export, so you set those again in the vault.
Does my vault ever leave my machine unencrypted?
No. Ravelon encrypts the vault with AES-256-GCM on the desktop before anything is synchronized. The sync server stores that encrypted data and has no key to open it, whether that server is ours or yours.
What happens if I stop paying?
Nothing, because there is nothing to stop. Pro and Self Hosted are one-time purchases, not subscriptions.
Try it first
Keep both for a week.
The desktop app is free on one device, including the encrypted vault, terminal, SFTP and the assistant. Import your ssh config and see whether the day goes better.
