Snippets

Save the command you keep looking up.

That long journalctl line, the docker format string, the du that actually sorts: save it once under a name you'll remember, and find it with the same search you use for hosts and tabs.

Pasted, never run for you

Inserting a snippet puts it in the active terminal, and that's it. On a production box, you still get to read the command before you press Enter.

“A snippet lands at the prompt. You read it once more and press Enter yourself.”

02

Variables for the parts that change

Write the bits that change as {{variables}}. When you use the snippet, a small dialog asks for each value before the command lands at the prompt. One template for restarting a service beats eleven that are almost the same.

  • A name and a description keep the list readable
  • Tags by service, host role or task
  • Copy to the clipboard, or paste straight into a pane
  • Kept in the encrypted vault and synced along with everything else

03

One palette over everything

The command palette searches hosts, open tabs, saved commands and actions in one list, so you never have to remember where something lives in a menu.

It can also open a host straight in the file browser, so "browse files on db-primary" is one search and one Enter. The palette remembers what you pick often and doesn't need exact spelling: wb1 finds web-01.

“The command palette searches hosts, open tabs, saved commands and actions in one list, so you never have to remember where something lives in a menu.”

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do snippets sync between devices?

They live in the encrypted vault, so with Ravelon Pro they travel with your hosts and settings to your other approved devices.

Does Ravelon run a snippet automatically?

No. It's pasted into the active terminal and waits for you to press Enter.

How do I find a snippet without leaving the terminal?

Open the command palette, or the snippets panel that docks next to the running panes on the terminal page.
